Today we found Wood ear fungi in the our gully which will be used in the kitchen in a delicious meal. It is very furry and velvety when you touch it. Mrs Masters has spoken to a mycologists, an expert of fungi, who checked that it is safe to eat.
This is another fungus which is not edible. Bracket fungi.
Fungi can come in a range of different sizes. You should only pick the big types of fungi but not the fungi where it goes black around the outside. It goes black around the outside because it is rotting away and needs to move to a different tree. The wood ear fungi lives in branches that have broken of the tree. Wood ear fungi is edible because of its taste and it does not have poisons gases. Alex Clark

Fungi is a plant that grows on trees and some of it is edible wood ear fuingi grows on branches that have fallen of trees and is also the edible one.
